ABSTRACT
Work experience is a vital part of the transition from education into work. Lack of experience is the number one concern of British employers who have recruited young people but found them poorly prepared and the main reason employers turn away young applicants. This chapter will explore the importance of work experience to the individual but also evidence of the value that employers derive from offering more work experience, and barriers to its provision.
