ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the key features of high quality learning to secure progress for students in the subject, and strategies that are used to drive improvement. It describes how to create a culture to improve the quality of teaching and learning. The chapter considers three things as what happens in lessons, what can one do to make homework an integral part of learning and how can written feedback is used to ensure that students make progress. Homework is a great opportunity for students to develop their independence and extend their thinking. Progress data includes departmental data that is generated at common assessment points. This may feed into a whole school system and is supplemented with data from Raise Online and the Fischer Family Trust (FFT). The three areas which are assessed across the school are progress, teaching and learning and behaviour for learning along with recording the development of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural, SMSC dimension.
