ABSTRACT

It is claimed that Lockie’s argument requires attributing ‘some strong principle of tolerance and respect’ (Tolland (T), p. 239) to all relativists (to relativism as such). Roughly attributed to Lockie is this: Relativists must respect/tolerate the perspective of the absolutists, but not vice versa. So relativists must respect/tolerate a philosophy which diametrically opposes and undermines their own, whilst absolutists need not do this. So relativism is defeated.
