Demographic developments in the United States have justifi ably received much attention recently. We regularly pass new demographic milestones as the United States transitions into a nation without a single racial or ethnic majority-be it a new state that joins the majority-minority club, or a year in which white births as a percentage of all births reach a new all-time low. This transition will have many important social implications, but the political implications are the source of much discourse, and for good reason.
