By the 70s things had got very bad, because the disintegration of the economy and even society in those last years of Callaghan were very serious you know, these terrible strikes, the lights all going out and a feeling that the whole place was collapsing and you know and you felt the whole country was going to hell in a hand basket and then Thatcher taking over, at least very strong policies to turn the country around, but they involved this huge assault on planning.1
