ABSTRACT

This chapter is about creative teaching and learning through the curriculum of games activities for children aged between 4 and 7 years. It is only in school that every child, regardless of ability and prior experience, is entitled to high-quality Physical Education that inspires all pupils to succeed, excel and lead healthy, active lives. This chapter is to enable teachers to extend children’s physical literacy through the provision of stimulating and challenging games activities. Essential to the development of physical literacy is the building of movement competence, movement vocabulary, movement memory and movement quality, and knowledge and understanding, while also enhancing the motivation and confidence of all learners. A further capacity is the development of imagination and curiosity, and the embedding of creative intelligence. The Early Years and Key Stage 1 are important for laying the foundation for lifelong participation in physical activity.
