ABSTRACT

Teachers are paramount in creating creative teaching and learning opportunities. This can only happen due to the creative practitioner’s passion, commitment and engagement. A belief in the value of teaching Physical Education and creative teaching will enable approaches to teaching Physical Education that value exploration; inspire, challenge and lean on learners’ interests, enthusiasms and thirst for wanting to know more; and, in turn, this enables learners to become more physically literate. In this chapter, we discuss planning for creative Physical Education, where we argue that planning is underpinned by our understanding of learning theories, values, beliefs, teaching styles and strategies. We also give an overview of pragmatics such as differentiation, safe practice, long-, medium-and short-term planning, aims, objectives/outcomes, and assessment. In addition, we explore ways of using technology to enhance teaching Physical Education creatively. The last part of this chapter returns to the introduction to this book, and argues for the POWER principles and the importance of keeping abreast of current thinking, especially if you are in role as a subject leader/coordinator. Finally, we remind ourselves of the connection to physical literacy as a holistic approach to Physical Education.
