ABSTRACT

This chapter explains creative teaching and learning through the curriculum of games activities for children aged between 4 and 7 years. It is only in school that every child, regardless of ability and prior experience, is entitled to high-quality Physical Education that inspires all pupils to succeed, excel and lead healthy, active lives. This chapter is to enable teachers to extend children's physical literacy through the provision of stimulating and challenging games activities. Robinson states that intelligence is essentially creative, and that our lives are 'shaped by the ideas we use to give them meaning'. Nurturing children's ability to generate ideas that can be explored through movement is an invaluable means of enhancing creative intelligence, particularly for those who readily find kinaesthetic learning to be the most accessible. The concept of 'play' is closely associated with games. Playing is the generally accepted term for participation in games, even in professional sports. We 'play' tennis, volleyball, football, cricket, hockey and golf.
