ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book refers often to the importance of understanding the two-way nature of relationships between parent and teenager. It is for parents who are facing divorce or separation. It outlines a new framework for parenting that will be helpful for those living with teenagers. A striking thing about teenagers is that they are often seen in a very negative light. The book helps one to navigate the teenage years. It considers the important new knowledge about adolescence. It provides more ideas about communication and further suggestions for ways to talk to the teenagers. The five things to think about when reading the book are: choosing the time to talk, use of news items to start a discussion, sharing something about ourselves, engaging in actions to make communications easier, and the ability to listen.
