ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book proposes the idea of STAGE and it provides a structure or framework for us to hang on to. STAGE identifies five key things about parenting. They are five elements which include significance, two-way communication, authority, generation gap, and emotion. The idea of significance has a lot to do with our own self-confidence, our own self-esteem as a parent. The idea of two-way communication helps us to communicate well with our teenager. The way we exercise our authority will be affected by the way we and our partner work together. The idea of generation gap can be helpful to us as it will offer the opportunity of real dialogue with your teenager about what it is like growing up today. It is also important to recognise that our teenager will be experiencing a range of emotions, many of them new or confusing.
