ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the STAGE framework. It considers the impact of emotions on the relationships between parent and teenager. The chapter describes the emotions of parents, but one should not ignore the fact that the emotions of teenagers also play a part in the overall picture. Words like moody and emotional are commonly used to describe teenage behaviour. This chapter shows how to manage emotions that occur in a relationship with a teenager. Amongst the various emotions that are experienced during the teenage years, a sense of loss is one that almost all parents experience at one time or another. Emotions play a highly significant role in family life. This chapter concludes that acknowledging one's emotions, and learning to manage them, can make a significant difference to how they play their role as a parent of a teenager.
