ABSTRACT

It is interesting to speculate what future applications merging large-scale databases and dynamic displays might produce. Some projects already underway may give us some basis for speculation. The economic, political, and sociological impacts of such capabilities would be enormous. It is tempting to wish to live for another hundred years to witness how information communication technologies (ICTs) will influence the next stages of societal evolution. Another issue that emerges from the analyses of ICTs and social change that will be a major focus in the future is that of the balance between privacy and transparency. The concept of culture wars has been applied in many situations and for many purposes. The most general definition of the concept is the disagreement that arises among competing groups that espouse contrasting economic and political agendas. Globalization is also a term that has accumulated many definitions, economic analyses, historical accounts, and controversies.
