ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the law of the few to organization's internal dynamics, on the basis of the assumption that the 'organizational culture' is determined mainly by 'prophetic minorities' and afterwards, as a consequence of imitation processes, influences the behavior of all the members in the organization. That is, when a sufficient number of intrinsically motivated people are present in Values-Based Organizations (VBOs), their presence and culture influences other members improving their cooperative behavior. The chapter discusses what happens, according to such a theoretical perspective, when some of these core members abandon the organization, since this can trigger some forms of 'poverty trap', in which the VBO might fall without realizing it straightaway. It also discusses what would happen within a VBO when it goes through an intergenerational or other kind of crisis which reduces the ideal quality of the organization.
