ABSTRACT

Place the foam on a cutting surface. When cutting patterns out of foam, spread the entire sheet of foam out on the table and lay out each pattern piece. Laying out all the pattern pieces will provide a visual to ensure designer have enough foam. If the pattern is symmetrical, make certain that designer leave enough room to double the pattern pieces because designer will need to cut one piece for each side. When cutting out foam pieces it may be easier to do a series of large cuts with scissors or a single-edged razor blade to free up the smaller pattern pieces before getting into detailed cuts. Using single-edged razor blade, cut along each side of the foam piece with consistent, fluid movement. Try not to stop and start in the middle of a cut, this will result in a choppy edge. The overall objective is that the pattern piece is stabilized while designer carefully trace around the edges.
