ABSTRACT

This chapter touches on different methodologies and ways to produce a design. It discusses working drawings, and how to begin translating a design into a three-dimensional object. Committing to a design is towards creating a three-dimensional object and it is a part of the planning process, especially when factors such as budgeting, collaborating with other artists, and sorting out technical challenges weigh heavy on the project. There are two fundamental ways to approach a design: focusing only on the design, simultaneously creating the design and how it is built. The first design approach involves constantly questioning, filling people head with essential images, impressions, and using their imagination. The second approach is commonly practiced on tight deadlines and when the designer is in a dual role that of being both the designer and the construction expert. The chapter also presents some design elements namely: Texture, Color, Line and Form. Texture is absolutely one of the author’s most favorite design elements.
