ABSTRACT
One rendering of a single view gives only one window of information, albeit very helpful information. Often it is very easy to forget that the construction crew is not quivering with anticipation in the designer’s head, intuitively knowing exactly what is needed. The color rendering is used as a resource for determining the scale, color, texture of the realized design. However, it can also be used as a piece of concept art to help illustrate the mood of a show, communicating the atmosphere or the interpretation of character. After the design is complete, working drawings are the next step. Working drawings might also include a sketch of an object’s foundation shape. If a design is very complicated or covered with a thick finish layer, it is important to pare down the shape into a more simplistic form to help the artisan or craftsman understand the foundation. A good tool to help with this type of drawing is a light box.
