chapter  10
Managing the natural resources for tourism
Pages 14

As Figure 6.1 indicates (see Chapter 6), the environment has fi ve components: the natural environment, natural resources, wildlife, the farmed environment and the built environment. The focus of this chapter is the natural environment, natural resources and wildlife, and how these, together, act as tourist attractions. In summary, the type of tourism discussed in the chapter can be termed ‘nature-based tourism’. According to Blamey (1995), much nature-based travel is generally referred to as ecotourism. This chapter focuses on the relationship between tourism and nature, discusses the concept of ecotourism and considers a number of management issues in relation to ecotourism.
