ABSTRACT

Media art involved many creative and generative eventualizations whose dynamic unity and wholeness on plane of the artificial were very hard to grasp and articulate. Media art event externalizes and solidifies choices of action as routinized complexes of means to reach an experiential goal. Media art makes explicit and testifies to the process in which everybody becomes an aesthetic event-manager and an artistic manipulator of subjectivity by instrumentalizing situations for desired experiential purposes. The media art projects engaging with the hardware, software, and interaction designs characterizing the unfolding of context-aware ubicomp in mixed realities obviously share the systemic operational and experiential encounter with complexity of the event. The events of ubicomp culture and media art actualize what Herbert Simon noted in passing— complex systems are not simply hierarchical and decomposable but operate with cross-cutting connections, and these may be more important than Simon wished to grant.
