ABSTRACT
“Media art” first developed as a “somewhat distinct” term in the 1960s under the influence of developments and experiments in global mass media and new mass communication technologies, which is most famously witnessed (and formulated in a popular form) in the writings and (in his day, radical) ideas of Marshal McLuhan (McLuhan 1964).
