ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides support and advice to people as a student teacher during those times when they may be questioning whether something is going well, or not so well. It presents suggestions to different areas of teaching and learning that are pertinent to teaching modern foreign languages (MFL). The book discusses the essentials of the curriculum, giving an outline of the key components in teaching languages. It addresses some key skills, as is the subject of target language. The book focuses on pedagogy techniques and gives suggestions of what might work best when teaching languages. It explains the differences between long-, medium- and short-term planning. The book considers assessment and the variety of ways that teacher can assess student progress. It finally describes different strategies to ensure good behaviour in the languages classroom.
