ABSTRACT

As a student teacher and as a newly qualified teacher (NQT) there will be many observations to track learning as a developing teacher and to check teacher standards. There may be target when working with mentor and these will need to be demonstrated in this chapter. One of the ways to do evidence of progress is through a grammar lesson or a lead lesson on a new topic area. Of course, this is not always possible. Progress and assessment do go hand in hand and will also help when thinking about ways to track progress. iRIS is a company that has created a camera that can be placed in classrooms for observation purposes. It may be worth asking someone at your school if they have an iRIS camera in school, and how you set about booking it for your own class. One trap not to fall into during an observation is to do something that students are not used to.
