ABSTRACT
The interior of an old house will explain, to an experienced eye, how its history has developed over the years. Character is usually created by what already exists in an old house rather than being applied subsequently. Many people mistakenly believe that removing the original plaster to expose brick or stone walls, for example, will enhance the character of an old house, when in fact it is more likely to destroy its authenticity.
