ABSTRACT

Candidates for licensure should know that the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) can be rigorous. The exam is a key hurdle for those interested in becoming licensed psychologists. Each year, graduates from doctoral programs in psychology from throughout the United States sit for the EPPP, sponsored by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (formerly the American Association of State Psychology Boards). Many candidates pass the examination on the first attempt. Licensure is not important only for psychologists, it is important also for the public as a way to identify competent professionals who have completed appropriate education and training for professional practice. However, highly competent candidates can experience frustration in completing the licensing examination. Those who successfully complete the examination have established licensure and the examination as priorities.
