ABSTRACT

A comprehensive professional resume, reflecting professional training, clinical skills, and specialty licenses and/or certifications is often a necessity even to qualify for an interview. In any event, a professional resume or curriculum vitae is a common necessity for psychologists interested in pursuing new employment options. Many psychology students amass considerable clinical experience. Of course, the depth and variety of experiences can vary markedly from one person to the next. Likewise, program specifications also vary from university to university and from one professional school to another, and this can have a marked influence on the experiences of the graduates. The professional resume should highlight predoctoral and postdoctoral training; showcase practicum, fieldwork, clerkship, and internship training; provide a detailed accounting of accomplishments; showcase licensure status and professional designations; and emphasize professional skills and competencies. Naturally, different individuals will want to emphasize different background experiences. This chapter provides a set of sample professional resumes and cover letters.
