ABSTRACT

There are many strategies and practice exercises that can be beneficial in providing a smooth transition from preparation to examination. Ongoing self-appraisal and practice are keys to success. This chapter provides a systematic review process for candidates preparing for examination leading to credentials for licensure. As such, systematic preparatory strategies are presented to aid candidates. Overall, candidates for licensure as psychologists must possess considerable psychological information. Successful candidates know that in addition to investigating specific state requirements, preparation should also include a minimum of two final practice examinations that mirror, as nearly as possible, the actual examination process. Ideally, this will include practice examinations conducted on the same day of the week and at the same time as the examination itself. Candidates should aim for 85 percent to 95 percent accuracy on the practice exams during the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) final preparation period. The examination, of course, is only one component in becoming a licensed psychologist.
