ABSTRACT
In this chapter on the background and methods of this study, I tell the story of the “journey of inquiry” that I took and the methods of investigation that I used to study Violet’s work and, ultimately, to write this book. I describe the path that I took in this process of research and documentation for two reasons: 1) to provide the reader with a clearer understanding of my relationship to Violet and my stance as the author of this text; and, 2) to provide the interested reader with more information about the theoretical and methodological ground upon which this book rests.
