ABSTRACT

As a pediatrician, I have been trained to be supportive and diagnostically oriented. My interventions are often prescriptive and focused, designed to suggest to patients and their parents what actions I feel will yield a fairly rapid resolution of their presenting problem. As a Gestalt therapist, I have been trained to observe process and to share my observations and my curiosity about what I see. If these observations are communicated in a supportive and contactful manner, the clients' changed awarenesses will support their contacting their environment in a more functional manner, thereby meeting their needs more fully.
