ABSTRACT
Comparable to all other traits in animals, cognitive abilities are adapted to the animal's ecological niche (Healy & Braithwaite 2000). Spatial learning and the formation of an internal representation of the environment are such essential capabilities needed in behaviours as territoriality. However, it is unclear what complexity of representation is needed and how good different representations work in a behavioural context.
