ABSTRACT

If all you get out of evaluation is a diagnosis, you don’t have much to work with. If the intervention of choice was simply a pill or medical procedure, little understanding would be required, and a mere diagnosis might suffice. Keep in mind, though, that in child trauma treatment, both the child and the parents will be asked to perform a series of challenging tasks that require both energy and persistence. Also, many of your kids and families have probably already been through counseling, perhaps more than once, and the problems keep getting worse. So your explanation must be extremely good. It should demonstrate your knowledge and credibility while also providing a persuasive rationale for the treatment activities you’ll recommend.
