ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the activity that is designed to aid therapists in getting to know the child's world in a manner such that the child doesn't feel interrogated. As children share their photographs the therapist is allowed to view aspects of the children's world that the clinician may never have "seen" in a conventional interview or session. The therapist can glean a wealth of information and assessments from this activity. Creating a scrapbook and sharing stories allows the child to demonstrate his or her creativity, decision-making ability, and manual dexterity, all of which provide information regarding the child's emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Special techniques to deal with some of the more arduous parenting of Attention Deficit Disorder-type (ADD) behaviors were chosen and implemented. A non disposable camera can also be used, but a disposable camera is recommended so that child does not have worry about damaging a camera; a disposable camera may also be easier to transport than a more bulky regular camera.
