ABSTRACT

This chapter proposes to encourage family members to think creatively and proactively about fun ways to spend time together for brief or extended periods. According to Greenspan, playing together as family is more than just fun and games. Playing gives parents the opportunity to have fun with their children, relax together, be spontaneous, and enjoy time with people they love. Mader and Recker showed that much of family's time together is spent watching television. The Family Play Planner provides families with structured way to be planful and proactive about their playtime together. Teaching families to play is an important aspect family interaction. The ultimate goal of this intervention is to get families to integrate playfulness, creativity, and imagination into very weave or fabric of their relationships with one another. Frances La Barre defines quality time families any time parents achieve an intimate connection with their children. Mather and Goodwin emphasize in their article by same title, "Parenting can be fun!".
