ABSTRACT

The therapeutic value of using children's books in therapy and tips on reading to children are discussed in this chapter. A lengthy handout of children's books is offered that can be used by both therapists and parents or other adult caretakers with children between the ages of three and twelve. Each book is categorized according to common concerns of children and their families in therapy. The table of contents organizes the categories alphabetically. The applicable age range is noted for most of the books. Where the information was available, illustrations that portray people of color are noted. A few books are not in print but can often be borrowed from local libraries.
