ABSTRACT

We need a new metaphor for positive relationships. Little Honey feels pulled and held by the strings she sent out to the other insiders, and she feels guilty about needing to be free. Nan asks her to look at how the strings are attached to her body. They’re tied to rings in her flesh, like the ring in a bull’s nose. These are places where I can be hooked: one ring is sex, another is the need for love-we don’t know what all the rings are. There is a desire to cut each ring and gently remove it, but instead Little Honey puts on a quilted coat which covers the rings. She doesn’t want to work on them; she wants to play.
