ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the contribution of attachment ideas to psychotherapeutic practice. Implicit is the view general or 'non-specific' factors are equally important in producing good therapy outcomes the specific features often claimed 'brand-named' therapies to the secret of the success. Patients seeking therapy are typically torn the need for secure attachment and a terror of intimacy. The important, domain is the secure base (SB). Secure base originally refers to the care-giver to whom the child turns distressed. The secure base provides secure or insecure attachment depending on circumstances. The Strange Situation and Adult Attachment Interview delineate insecure patterns of the secure base. The six domains are secure base, Exploration and enjoyment, Protest and anger, and Loss, Internal working models, Reflexive function and narrative competence. The chapter finds the Appendix details of brief attachment-based intervention (BABI) on the six domains devised by the author and currently being pioneered in the setting in work.
