ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Model of Career Development which can be utilized as a tool for the in-depth self-assessment and analysis of art therapists and psychotherapists in order to determine their roles in our multicultural, global village. The Model of Career Development for a Multicultural Workforce also emphasizes self-assessment, which includes an identification of one's values, interests, abilities, and personality. The career development of America's varied population is an important topic in contemporary mental health. Consequently, the career development of art therapists and psychotherapists is gaining significance as the need for health care providers increases. The Model of Career Development, with applications for art therapists and psychotherapists, identifies issues that are relevant to art therapists and psychotherapists as they examine their own career issues. The broadening of art therapy into diverse institutional settings is partly a reflection of society's changing needs in the areas of social services.
