ABSTRACT

Russ's experience is shared by many instrumental grievers. They often find grief counseling, with its strong bias toward affective ventilation, of limited value. In fact, many instrumental grievers may even perceive it as threatening, for their own approaches, strengths, and strategies are dis counted. Also, interventive strategies may be designed that rather than building on their strengths, ignore them and concentrate instead on ad dressing what is perceived as their glaring weakness-the lack of strong affect.
