ABSTRACT

The author describes his early preparation to be a college professor, the nature of his academic life in a small liberal arts college, a little about my 2 years in full-time administrative work at the American Psychological Association (APA). He stayed at APA for 2 years where he learned a great deal about the breadth of psychology as a discipline and about the policy and advocacy roles of a national organization in Washington. The undergraduate course might be the introductory course or the history course, whereas the graduate courses would be history and a course on the teaching of psychology. My involvement is in those whose subject interests me the most or in those for which my membership is required because of my professorial rank. As he reflects on this academic odyssey, he believes that there are facets of my life and career that are common to many individuals, both in and out of academic life.
