ABSTRACT

Writing this chapter in the author's later years as a psychologist presents an intriguing opportunity to reflect upon her 24 years as a doctoral-level psychologist, as well as her earlier careers in teaching, counseling, social work, and school psychology. Since 1984, the author has been a professor in a doctoral program in counseling psychology at The University of Iowa. Prior to that, the author held a number of service, administrative, and academic positions. During her undergraduate years, the author became active in student government, held a number of organizational offices, and developed skills in working with, and leading, somewhat diverse groups. All of these interests remained alive, in varying degrees, through her early careers, although it has been in her work as a doctoral-level psychologist that they have contributed most strongly to the roles she has played.
