ABSTRACT

Setting: In 1997 the Vice President for Health Sciences at the University of New Mexico (UNM) announced an expanded role for and the creation of a new academic and research technology development unit within the library. These programmatic and functional changes required significant changes to the library's form and facilities both to advance technologically and to respond to staff office and collection issues in a 40,000 square-foot space, which was too small for its expanded role.
