ABSTRACT

This chapter considers how to utilize spirituality in the clinical and educational setting. The theory of Spiritual Spontaneity, the own 9/11, is proposed to train or enable the people to be ready to face future unanticipated events from a spiritual perspective. The word spiritual has 9 letters, and the word spontaneity has 11. Together they provide a way to use the numbers 9-11 for a goal-directed path. From a variety of sources, the question of spirituality has examined in light of the lessons of 9/11. The recent findings were culled from four key areas, post-September 11 reports, the proliferating science and religion movement, the vast array of spirituality literature, and the awakening within occupational therapy. On an international and national level, occupational therapy had begun to recognize the importance of considering spirituality in assessment and treatment planning. Perhaps this new awakening helps occupational therapy practitioners to realize that it considers their own spirituality as they address that of their clients.
