ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about Hospital. On one side of the ward there is a locked, electric door. On this side where the author standing looking out into the street her forehead presses against the iron lace crowding the window that won't open. An art teacher might have called this entourage 'Supplies'. The head nurse called it 'Insanity'. Instead, forty human feet burst through the locked front door a nurse has dialled security. A technician slams the door shut and they crowd around a ninety pound woman-child who does not want to eat breakfast force-fed through her nose. Listen to the whining of the girl who lounges in too prominent a chair, a comic character. The school marm cannot know how far she's been surpassed, sitting uninvited in the crowd of quiet faces. Gather strength from silence. This is the induction to Privilege Class.
