ABSTRACT

Prophetic and proactive pastoral practice toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community needs to be theologically grounded and informed by resources from contemporary social sciences and from experience. Pastoral care from such a perspective benefits individuals, families and communities in their struggle to comprehend sexual identity. Authentic pastoral care occurs when the caregiver recognizes God’s blessings in diverse and appropriate sexual expressions, clarifies cultural definitions with individuals and communities, works toward understanding developmental issues related to sexuality, and responds to particular cases with insight and care.
