ABSTRACT

THE GENERAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE ICONOGRAPHY OF THE “FOOTPRINTS” OF THE TOWERS HAS CLEARLY BECOME THE FORMAL TERRAIN ON WHICH A MEMORIAL MUST EXPRESS ITSELF. The fact that no trace of the footprints remains means that they must be reinvented from scratch, that both their measurements and their force must be defined. The project presented here is an assertion of what seems a natural auratic throw for these forms. At a minimum, this would seem to entail everything within the lost perimeter of the towers and extend down to bedrock and up to the heavens. Anything less is clearly a compromise and must be explicitly understood as such.
