ABSTRACT

In the late 1930s, Abraham Maslow began to study the relationship between sexuality and what he called 'dominance feeling' or 'self-esteem' or 'ego level' in women. Even sexuality becomes a matter of role-playing. Both sexes have lost touch with their inner selves, replacing them with roles. To achieve a society of whole people, it is essential that these lost selves be found and realized. Potentially we are all whole human beings, but both men and women have been diminished and distorted. Most people in humanistic psychology seem to be quite open to homosexual expression, and quite accepting of gay people, but somehow they do not talk about, do not write about, do not research about anything to do with the gay experience. They just leave it alone, quietly and politely. Humanistic psychology needs to be a lot more consistent in its approach.
