ABSTRACT

Prisoners of an environment that people ourselves have created, night and day on television screens and in newspapers they are confronted with the condemned, their families and their stories. To allow this is the consummate challenge of consciousness and they find the connection between our secret fascination with the image of the prisoner and an immediate impassioned reaction to anything that reminds us of the presence of that image. Release of the prisoner is realized at a given moment but integration of freedom takes longer. Prisoners of our own guilt, people live with fear and dread in order to avoid risking a confrontation with faith. By admission, Empedocles who was one of them and who permitted him to be crowned as a god and worshipped by the people reported that thousands followed him to discover where the road to salvation led.
