This research is a two-stage, qualitative study that involved ten Latino gay men participating in an in-depth interview with me, the researcher, to explore, capture, and understand their experiences. In addition, the second stage of this study included two participants using Josselson' s (1992) relational space map research process to further probe the complexity of this situation and obtain further richness of detail from the participants. With relational space maps, participants create a map with circles that link them to the most important people in their lives (Josselson, 1992). This technique allowed me to collect further information on relationships, important life events, changes, and areas of growth for the participants. This two-stage study gave me an intensive way to think more clearly about "lived experiences."
