ABSTRACT

How might home and school contexts constrain school outcomes for homeless children? As stated in the chapter one, that is the fundamental question with which this research began. As the study developed, the question was focused specifically upon the eleven children in this study, and three sets of sub-questions arose. I sought to learn about:

• the characteristics, histories, and living situations of the children’s families, including the role of their homeless status;

• the children’s school performance in the present and the past; and • the nature of the school’s response to their needs.
