ABSTRACT

The CB radio has proved its worth to motorists in a variety of ways. These include: warnings of road hazards or speed traps; information, such as directions; calls for assistance, including accidents or disabled vehicles; and, just simply, friendly conversation. It should come as no surprise to us that improved technological means of communication (such as the CB radio) is not limited to law-abiding activities and use. Indeed, the warnings of speed traps (formerly accomplished solely by headlight signals) and the “Smokey and the Bandit” syndrome gave rise to the “outlaw” uses of the CB radio. The CB radio can provide the medium for individuals who wish to conduct deviant business or interactions where mobile communication is desired.
