ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part describes the training experiences developed for students in the Division’s Master of Public Health program with a specialization in long term care administration as well as for students in related programs. It addresses training issues with a focus on working with the community-based elderly. The part describes the relationship between learning in the field and academic training. It focuses on the basic components of the field experience: the student, the university and the agency within which the field experience occurs. The part provides a complete training module on the “Long Term Care Service Continuum Model” as it is taught in his course “Overview of Long Term Care” in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology. It discusses analogous efforts in the College of Physicians & Surgeons.
