ABSTRACT

Morningside House and its affiliate, Aging in America, serve as the Expanded In-home Services to the Elderly Program agency for Community Districts 11 and 12 in the Bronx. There are many discussions both within New York State and across the country regarding the different models of day care. The variety of these models includes the medical model, the social-medical model, the continuum of care model, and the volunteer social model. Morningside House operates a State-approved, Non-Occupant Day Care Program which, according to State Code, must be operated as part of a State-approved program. This approach entitles clients to Medicaid support as long as the program is operated within the guidelines of the State. Many day care programs choose a nurse as the director. Morningside House chose instead a member of its team who had successfully demonstrated management and care abilities as Director of Recreational Therapy there.
